January 1, 2010!
Sarah and I slept in a bit today, but had saved our Coogee to Bondi beach walk for New Years Day just in case we were a bit hungover. Luckily, we awoke ready to meet the day and took a bus out to Coogee Beach to start our walk. While trying to find the right bus to get us out there, we made the mistake of letting our southern accents slip and asked a bus driver "Is this the bus to COOOOOOgee beach?" He looked at me and said, to get to "Cuhgi" beach we could take X bus, but that we should not call it "Coooogee" ever again!

In the end, we arrived to Coogee Beach and began our 2k walk along Australia's cliff-like coastline up and down the rocky terrain passing several small beaches along the way, as well as a couple larger ones full of families celebrating the new year's hot weather!
After our walk, we returned to the city for an early shower in preparation for our dinner at Doyles on the Beach in Watson's Bay. To get there, we took a big ferry for about 20 minutes through the harbour close to the "gap" where the harbour meets the Tasman Sea. We settled at a beach side table overlooking the city, and were immediately very excited about our dinner!
I ordered Australian oysters and we both had fish & chips and Australian beer. Around 8 the sun set and it was SPECTACULAR!!
People jumped from their chairs to take pictures of the sky which turned from light blue to dark blue with pinks and purples and yellows and reds all consuming the big sky.
Children ran around the little beach and friends posed for photos with the skyline in the background. The sunset only became more fantastic as the sun went down and the clouds which we had expected to discourage a sunset lifted at the last minute, only to enhance the beauty in front of us.
It was a night to remember
